Tafsir of An-Nahl 16:88

{Those who disbelieved and obstructed...}

{Those who disbelieved} in themselves, and incited others to disbelief: God will multiply their punishment just as they multiplied their disbelief.

It is said regarding the increase of their torment: there are snakes the size of Bactrian camels and scorpions the size of mules; one of them delivers a sting, and its victim feels its venom for forty autumns.

It is also said: they are brought out of the Fire into the Zamharīr (intense cold), and due to its extreme chill, they hasten back to the Fire.

{Because they were corrupting} by being those who corrupted people through their obstruction of the way of God.

{And [mention] the Day when We will resurrect among every nation a witness over them from themselves, and We will bring you, [O Muhammad], as a witness over these [people]. And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.}
