An-Naḥl: 95 **"And do not exchange the covenant of Allah for a small price..."**

Some of those who accepted Islam in Mecca were tempted by Satan. This was due to their distress over the dominance they witnessed from the Quraysh, the weakness of the Muslims, and the harm inflicted upon them. They were swayed by the promises the Quraysh made to them—that if they renounced their allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), they would be rewarded.

Allah then strengthened them, saying:

"And do not exchange" — meaning, do not trade away.

"The covenant of Allah" — and the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).

"For a small price" — a trivial worldly gain, which is what the Quraysh were promising and tempting them with if they turned back.

"That which is with Allah" — in terms of granting you victory, spoils of war, and the reward of the Hereafter.

"Is better for you" — than what you have.

"Whatever you have will end, but what is with Allah is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do."
