Tafsir of Al-Isra 17:106

{And [it is] a Qur’an which We have divided [into parts] in order that you might recite it...}

• {وقرءانا} (And a Qur’an): It is in the accusative case (mansūb) due to a verb implied by the following clause {فرقناه} (We have divided it).
• Ubayy’s Reading: He read it as farraqnāhu (with a shaddah), meaning: We made its revelation gradual and piecemeal.
• Ibn Abbas: He also read it with a shaddah and said: "It was not revealed in two or three days; rather, there were twenty years between its beginning and its end." This implies that faraqnāhu (with a light rā) indicates a separation that is close in time, whereas the shaddah indicates a prolonged, gradual process.
• {على مكث} (Over a period): Read with both a fatḥah and a ḍammah on the mīm. It means: with deliberation, patience, and steadiness.
• {ونزلناه تنزيلا} (And We have sent it down progressively): According to the unfolding of events.

{Say, "Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it—when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration, * And they say, 'Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord has surely been fulfilled.' * And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility."}
