Tafsir
Verse range: 17:21
{Look} with the eye of consideration {how} We have made them vary in favor. In the Hereafter, the disparity is even greater, for it is a matter of reward, compensation, and grace, all of which vary.
It is narrated that a group of nobles and others gathered at the door of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Permission to enter was granted to Bilal and Suhayb, which distressed Abu Sufyan. Suhayl ibn Amr said: "We have only been brought to this state because they were called [to Islam] and we were called, but they hastened while we delayed."
If this is the case at the door of Umar, how much greater will the disparity be in the Hereafter? If you envy them for the door of Umar, know that what Allah has prepared for them in Paradise is far greater.
It is recited: wa-akbaru tafdila (and greater in favor).
Some have said: "O you who boast of your status in the gatherings of this world, do you not desire to boast in the gatherings of the Hereafter, which are greater and more excellent?"
{Do not set up with Allah any other god, lest you sit down blamed and forsaken.}
