Surah Al-Isra 17:58
ﳈ ﳉ ﳊ ﳋ ﳌ ﳍ ﳎ ﳏ ﳐ ﳑ ﳒ ﳓ ﳔ ﳕ ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ ﳙ ﳚ
And there is no city but that We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection or punish it with a severe punishment. That has ever been in the Register inscribed.

Al-Isra: 58
{We shall destroy it} by death and total eradication, {or punish it} by slaughter and various forms of torment.
It is said: Destruction is for the righteous [towns], and punishment is for the wicked [towns].
It is narrated from Muqatil that he found in the books of al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim regarding its interpretation:
- As for Mecca, the Abyssinians will destroy it.
- Medina will perish by hunger.
- Basra by drowning.
- Kufa by the Turks.
- The mountains by lightning bolts and earthquakes.
- As for Khurasan, its punishments are manifold. He then mentioned it city by city.
{In the Book}—meaning in the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz).
Al-Isra: 59
{And nothing has prevented Us from sending the signs except that the ancients denied them. And We gave Thamud the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.}
