Verse range: 18:107
"A place of descent" (ḥawlan): It means transformation/shifting. It is said: "He shifted (ḥāla) from his place," just as you would say, "Her love returned (ʿāda) to me."
It means: There is no place beyond it to which their souls might yearn, nor any place more encompassing of their purposes and desires. This is the ultimate description, for a human being in this world—no matter what bliss they are in—is always casting their gaze toward something higher.
It is also permissible that it intends the negation of shifting and the affirmation of eternity.
