Tafsir of Maryam 19:13

{And affection from Us} Meaning: Mercy for his parents and others, and tenderness and compassion. Sibawayh recited: “She said: ‘Affection! What has brought you here? Are you a kinsman, or are you acquainted with the tribe?’”

It is said: It means an affection from God bestowed upon him. The root ḥanna carries the meaning of yearning and longing, then it was used to denote tenderness and compassion. God is called Ḥannān (The Affectionate), just as He is called Raḥīm (The Merciful), by way of metaphor.

{And purity} Meaning: Cleansing. It is also said: Charity. That is, he is tender toward people and gives charity to them.

{And peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised alive.}
