Tafsir
Verse range: 19:22
On the authority of Ibn Abbas: She felt reassured by his words. He drew near to her and blew into the opening of her garment, and the breath reached her womb, so she conceived.
Regarding the duration of the pregnancy:
Regarding her age:
Note: They say that every newborn cries out upon birth, except for him.
{فانتبذت به} (So she withdrew with him): Meaning, she isolated herself while he was in her womb. This is like the saying: "It treads with us upon skulls and dust" Meaning: It treads upon skulls while we are upon its back. Similar to this is the Almighty’s saying: {تُنْبِتُ بِالدُّهْنِ} (It produces oil) [Al-Mu'minun: 20], meaning it produces, and its oil is within it. The prepositional phrase is in the position of a state (hal).
{قَصِيًّا} (To a remote place): Far from her people, behind the mountain. It is also said: To the furthest part of the house.
It is said: She was betrothed to a cousin of hers named Yusuf. When it was said that she had conceived through adultery, he feared the King would kill her, so he fled with her. When they were on the road, his soul tempted him to kill her, but Gabriel came to him and said: "He is of the Holy Spirit, so do not kill her," and he left her.
{فَأَجَاءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ إِلَىٰ جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَا لَيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَٰذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًا مَّنسِيًّا} (Then the labor pains drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten!")
