Tafsir of Maryam 19:38

"How clearly they will hear and how clearly they will see..."

God Almighty is not described as experiencing wonder. Rather, the meaning is that their hearing and sight on that Day will be worthy of wonder, after they had been deaf and blind in this world.

It is also said: The meaning is a threat regarding what they will hear and see of that which will distress them and shatter their hearts.

The manifest noun—meaning "the wrongdoers"—is placed in the position of the pronoun to signify that there is no injustice more severe than their injustice, as they neglected to listen and observe when it would have benefited and brought them happiness.

"Manifest error" refers to the neglect of observation and listening.

"The matter will have been decided..." The reckoning will be finished, and the two parties will have departed to Paradise and the Fire. It is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that when he was asked about the "deciding of the matter," he said: "When the ram is slaughtered while both parties are looking on."

"And warn them..." "And" (in wa-andhirhum) is a substitute for "the Day of Regret," or it is in the accusative case governed by "regret."

"While they are in heedlessness..." According to al-Hasan, this is linked to the statement "in manifest error." "And warn them" is a parenthetical clause, or it is linked to "warn them"—meaning: warn them while they are in this state, heedless and not believing. It is possible that it means He will cause them to die, destroy their homes, annihilate their bodies, destroy the earth, and cause it to pass away.

"And mention in the Book, Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. When he said to his father, 'O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not avail you at all? O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path. O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient. O my father, indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Most Merciful so you would be to Satan a companion.'"
