Maryam: 58
{Those are the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor...}
{Those}: A reference to those mentioned in the Surah, from Zakariya to Idris, peace be upon them.
{From among the prophets}: The min (from) here is for clarification (li-l-bayān), similar to His saying at the end of Surah al-Fath: "Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness" (48:29), because all prophets have been favored.
The second min (in min dhurriyyati-him - from their descendants) is for partition (li-t-tabʿīḍ). Idris was from the descendants of Adam due to his proximity to him, as he was the grandfather of Noah’s father. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was from the descendants of those who were carried with Noah, as he is from the descendants of Sam ibn Nuh. Ismail is from the descendants of Ibrahim. Musa, Harun, Zakariya, and Yahya are from the descendants of Israel. Likewise is Isa, because Maryam is from his descendants.
{And from those We guided}: This may be conjoined to the first min or the second. If you make alladhīna (those) the predicate for ulāʾika (those), then {When they are recited} is a new, independent sentence. If you make it an adjective for it, then it is the predicate.
Shibl ibn ʿAbbād al-Makkī read yutlā (is recited) in the masculine form, because the feminine gender is not real (non-human) and there is a separator.
{Bukiyyan} (Weepers): The plural of bāk (weeper), like sujūd and quʿūd as plurals for sājid and qāʿid.
It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Recite the Quran and weep; if you cannot weep, then feign weeping."
And from Salih al-Murri (may Allah be pleased with him): "I recited the Quran to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a dream, and he said to me: 'This is the recitation, O Salih, but where is the weeping?'"
And from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "When you recite the prostration of Subḥān (Surah al-Isra), do not rush to prostrate until you weep. If the eye of one of you does not weep, let his heart weep."
And from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "The Quran was revealed with sadness, so when you recite it, be sad."
They said: One should supplicate during the prostration of recitation with what befits its verse. If he recites the verse of prostration (in this Surah), he says: "O Allah, make me among those who prostrate to Your Face and glorify You with Your praise, and I seek refuge in You from being among those who are arrogant toward Your command."
If he recites the prostration of Subḥān, he says: "O Allah, make me among those who weep to You and are humble before You."
If he recites this (current) verse, he says: "O Allah, make me among Your servants upon whom You have bestowed favor, the guided ones, who prostrate to You and weep when Your verses are recited."
{Then there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil (Ghayy).}
