Maryam: 86 **"And We will drive the criminals to..."**

The disbelievers are mentioned as being driven to the Fire with humiliation and contempt, as if they were thirsty livestock being driven to water.

  • Al-Wird (The Watering Place): Refers to the thirsty, for no one approaches water except out of thirst.
  • The Reality of Al-Wird: It is the journey toward water. A poet said:

Go down, go down, like the descent of a deaf sandgrouse, Dust-colored, delighted by the coolness of the water.

Thus, those who arrive at the water are named by it (al-waridun).

Al-Hasan read: "The righteous shall be gathered (yuhsharun)," and "The criminals shall be driven (yusaqun)."

Maryam: 87 **"They will not possess [the power of] intercession, except for he who has taken a covenant with the Most Merciful."**
