Maryam: (92) And it is not befitting for the Most Merciful...

"And it is not befitting" (wa-mā yanbaghī): It is the intransitive form (muṭāwiʿ) of baghā (to seek). It means: it is not possible for Him to take a son, nor is it sought—even if one were to seek it—because it is an impossibility that does not fall under the category of what is valid.

As for biological procreation, there is no need to discuss its impossibility [regarding God]. As for adoption, it only occurs between things of the same kind, and the Eternal—glory be to Him—has no kind. Exalted is He far above what the wrongdoers say.

{There is no one in the heavens and the earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. He has enumerated them and counted them a counting. And each of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.}
