Al-Baqarah: 207

"And of the people is he who..."

"...sells his soul" He sells it; meaning, he offers it up in Jihad. It is also said: he enjoins good and forbids evil until he is killed.

It is said that this was revealed regarding Suhayb ibn Sinan. The polytheists pressured him to abandon Islam and killed a group who were with him. He said to them, "I am an old man; if I am with you, I will not benefit you, and if I am against you, I will not harm you. So leave me to what I am upon and take my wealth." They accepted his wealth, and he came to Medina.

"And Allah is Kind to the servants" In that He obligated Jihad upon them, thereby exposing them to the reward of the martyrs.

Al-Baqarah: 208–209

"O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. But if you slip after clear proofs have come to you, then know that Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise."
