Taha: 49

"He said, 'Who then is the Lord of you two, O Moses?'"

He addressed the two of them, but directed the call to one of them—Moses—because he is the primary figure in the prophethood, while Aaron is his vizier and follower. It is also possible that his malice and wickedness drove him to demand speech from Moses rather than his brother, due to his knowledge of Aaron’s eloquence and the speech impediment in Moses’ tongue. This is evidenced by his saying: "Or am I better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?" (Az-Zukhruf: 52).

"He gave everything its creation"

  • "Its creation" is the first of the two objects of the verb "gave" (a‘ṭā). It means: He gave His creation everything they need and benefit from.
  • Or, it is the second object: He gave every thing its form and shape that corresponds to the utility attached to it. Just as He gave the eye the form that corresponds to sight, the ear the shape that suits hearing, and likewise the nose, hand, foot, and tongue—each one is perfectly suited to the benefit for which it was designed, never failing in its function.
  • Or, He gave every animal its counterpart in creation and form, as He made the horse and the mare, the camel and the she-camel, the man and the woman, as pairs. He did not pair anything with other than its own species or that which matches its creation.
  • It has been recited as khalqahu (as an adjective for the possessor or the possessed), meaning: Everything that God created, He did not leave without His gift and bounty.

"Then He guided"

Meaning: He taught it how to utilize what He gave it and how to attain it. How excellent this answer is! How concise, how comprehensive, and how clear it is to one who applies his mind, looks with the eye of fairness, and is a seeker of the truth.

Taha: 51–54

"He said, 'The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a Record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets. [It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants. Eat and pasture your livestock. Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence.'"
