Verse range: 21:88
{فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ}
{وَنُنَجِّي} (and We save), {وَنُنْجِي} (and We save), and {وَنُجِّي} (and We save). The nun (ن) is not assimilated into the jim (ج). As for the one who strained to justify the reading {وَنَجَّى} (and He saved) by making it a verb, saying: "He saved the believers [with] the salvation," thereby dropping the ya (ي), attributing it to its verbal noun (masdar), and putting "the believers" in the accusative case via the salvation—this is a forced and cold interpretation.
{وَزَكَرِيَّا إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ * فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ يَحْيَىٰ وَأَصْلَحْنَا لَهُ زَوْجَهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا ۖ وَكَانُوا لَنَا خَاشِعِينَ}
(And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while You are the best of inheritors." So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and We amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate to Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.)
