Tafsir
Verse range: 22:62
"That is because Allah..."
It is recited as tadʿūn (you call upon) with the tāʾ (second person) and the yāʾ (third person). Al-Yamani recited: wa-anna mā yudʿawna (and that what they are called upon), using the passive voice. The pronoun wāw refers back to mā (what/that which) because it carries the meaning of "the deities."
That is to say: That description—of creating the night and the day, encompassing all that occurs within them, and perceiving every word and action—is because Allah is the Truth, whose divinity is established. Everything called upon as a god besides Him is a false claim, and there is nothing higher than Him in status or greater in authority.
"Do you not see that Allah has sent down rain from the sky, and the earth becomes green? Indeed, Allah is Subtle, Acquainted. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy."
