Al-Mu'minun: 21

"And indeed, for you in..."

  • It is read: (tasqīkum) with an open tā’ (feminine prefix), meaning: the livestock give you to drink.
  • {And from them you eat}: Meaning, benefits are attached to them, such as riding, carrying [burdens], and other things, just as they are attached to animals whose meat is not eaten, such as horses, mules, and donkeys.
  • In them is an additional benefit: Which is eating, which is a benefit derived from their very essence.
  • The intent by "livestock" (al-an‘ām): Is camels, because they are what are typically ridden. They are paired with "the ships" (al-fulk), which are vessels, because they are the "ships of the land."
  • Dhu al-Rumma said:

    A ship of the land, beneath the side of whose cheek is a rein. He means his camel.

Al-Mu'minun: 23–25

{And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; will you not then fear Him?" But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a human being like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you. And if Allah had willed, He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers of old. He is not but a man possessed by madness, so wait for him for a time."}
