Tafsir
Verse range: 23:49
"And We certainly gave Moses the Book..."
{Moses the Book} That is, the people of Moses, the Torah.
{That they might} Act according to its laws and its admonitions, as He said: {In fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs} (Yunus: 83). He means the people of Pharaoh, just as they say: "Hashim," "Thaqif," and "Tamim," intending their tribes.
It is not permissible for the pronoun in {that they might} to refer to Pharaoh and his chiefs, because the Torah was only given to the Children of Israel after the drowning of Pharaoh and his chiefs: {And We certainly gave Moses the Book after We had destroyed the former generations} (Al-Qasas: 43).
{And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and We sheltered them within a high ground, having level land and flowing springs.}
