Tafsir of Al-Mu'minoon 23:54

"So leave them in their confusion..."

• Al-Ghamrah (The confusion/flood): Water that covers a person’s stature. It is used as a metaphor for the ignorance and blindness in which they are submerged. Alternatively, they are likened to those playing in deep water due to the falsehood they are engaged in.

• The Poet said: "As if I am wading through a flood of play."

• Regarding the verse: Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "In their confusion {until a time}—meaning until they are killed or die."

"Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children, We are hastening for them in good things? Rather, they do not perceive."
