An-Nur: 19

"Indeed, those who love..."

The Meaning: They spread indecency with the intention of spreading it, desiring it, and loving it.

The Punishment: The punishment of this world is the prescribed legal penalty (hadd). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) struck ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy, Hassan, and Mistah. Safwan lay in wait for Hassan and struck him with a sword, which caused him to lose his sight. It is said that he is the one intended by His saying: "And he who took the greater part of it among them" (An-Nur: 11).

"And Allah knows..." What is in the hearts regarding secrets and inner thoughts.

"And you do not know." Meaning: He has known the love of those who loved the spreading [of indecency], and He will punish them for it.

"And were it not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, and that Allah is Kind and Merciful."
