And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Kind and Merciful.

Tafsir
Verse range: 24:20
"And were it not for the favor of Allah..."
He repeated the mention of the favor by refraining from hastening the punishment, while omitting the response (jawab) to "were it not" (lawla), just as he omitted it there [in the previous verse].
In this repetition, along with the omission of the response, there is a profound hyperbole (mubalagha), as there is also in [the divine names] "the Accepting of Repentance" (al-Tawwab), "the Kind" (al-Ra'uf), and "the Merciful" (al-Rahim).
"O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And were it not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have ever been purified, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing."
