An-Nur: 54
The discourse shifts from the third person to the second person (addressing the Prophet and the believers) as a form of iltifat (rhetorical shift), which is more effective in rebuking them.
It means: If you turn away, you do not harm him; you only harm yourselves. The Messenger is only responsible for what Allah has entrusted him with and obligated him to do: the delivery of the Message. Once he has delivered it, he is discharged from the responsibility of his commission.
As for you, you are responsible for what you have been tasked with: receiving it with acceptance and submission. If you do not do so and turn away, you expose yourselves to the wrath and punishment of Allah. If you obey him, you secure your share of exiting from misguidance into guidance. Thus, the benefit and the harm return to you. The Messenger is nothing but a counselor and a guide; he is only responsible for conveying that which contains benefit for you if you accept it, and he bears no harm if you turn away.
Al-balagh (conveyance) is in the sense of tabligh (delivering), just as al-ada’ (performance) is in the sense of ta’diya (fulfilling). The meaning of al-mubin (the clear) is that it is accompanied by signs and miracles.
"Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession upon the earth, just as He granted it to those before them, and He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them, and He will surely change their state of fear into security, [provided that] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. And whoever disbelieves after that, then those are the defiantly disobedient."
