Never think that the disbelievers are causing failure [to Allah] upon the earth. Their refuge will be the Fire - and how wretched the destination.

An-Nur: (57) "Do not think..."

And it is read: (La yahsabanna) with a ya (third person). Regarding this, there are several interpretations:

  1. That {those who disbelieve} are the subject, and {those who frustrate [Our will] on earth} are the two objects. The meaning is: Let not those who disbelieve think that anyone can frustrate Allah on earth, such that they might hope for such a thing. This is a strong and excellent interpretation.
  2. That it contains a pronoun referring to the Messenger, due to his prior mention in the verse: {And obey the Messenger}.
  3. That the original structure was: "Let not those who disbelieve think them [the believers] to be frustrators." Then, the pronoun which is the first object was omitted. What justifies this is that when the subject and the two objects refer to the same entity, mentioning two is sufficient to imply the third.

He connected the statement: {And their refuge is the Fire} to {Do not think those who disbelieve are frustrators}. It is as if it were said: "Those who disbelieve shall not escape Allah, and their refuge is the Fire." Those intended by this are those who "swore their strongest oaths."

{O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you ask permission of you [at] three times: before the dawn prayer, and when you put aside your clothing at noon, and after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy for you. There is no blame upon you or upon them beyond these [periods], for they circulate among you, some of you attending to others. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.}
