Surah Al-Furqan 25:60
ﱸ ﱹ ﱺ ﱻ ﱼ ﱽ ﱾ ﱿ ﲀ ﲁ ﲂ ﲃ ﲄ ﲅ ﲆ
And when it is said to them, "Prostrate to the Most Merciful," they say, "And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?" And it increases them in aversion.

Al-Furqān: (60) "And when it is said to them..."
{And what is the Most Merciful (al-Raḥmān)?}
It is possible that this is a question regarding the One named by it, because they did not know Him by this name, and the question regarding the unknown is [posed] with "what" (mā).
It is also possible that it is a question regarding its meaning, because it was not used in their speech as al-Raḥīm, al-Raḥūm, and al-Rāḥim were used. Or, it is because they denied its application to Allah Almighty.
{To that which you command us}
Meaning: To that which you command us, in the sense of "command us to prostrate," based on the saying: "I commanded you to do good" (amartuka al-khayra). Or, it means: "To your command to us."
It was also recited with a yā’ (ya’murunā), as if some of them said to others: "Shall we prostrate to that which Muhammad (peace be upon him) commands us?" or "to that which is named the Most Merciful, and we do not know what it is?"
In {increased them}, there is a pronoun referring to {prostrate to the Most Merciful}, because that is what was said.
