Al-Furqan: 71

"And whoever repents and does righteousness..."

He means: Whoever abandons sins, regrets them, and engages in righteous deeds, he is by that:

  • "Returning to Allah" (tā’iban ilā Allāh): Pleasing to Him, having his sins expiated, and attaining reward.
  • "A true return" (matāban): Returning to the One who knows the rights of the repentant and treats them as they deserve; the One who loves those who are ever-repentant and loves those who purify themselves. It is said in the speech of some Arabs: "Allah is more joyful at the repentance of His servant than the one who has lost his way and finds it, the thirsty one who finds water, or the barren one who gives birth."
  • Alternatively: He returns to Allah and to His reward with a good return—and what an excellent return it is.

72

"And those who do not witness falsehood, and when they pass by vain talk, they pass by with dignity."
