Tafsir of Ash-Shu`ara' 26:116

{They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be among those who are stoned."}

This is not a report of disbelief, for he [Noah] knew that the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed is more knowing. Rather, he meant: "I do not call upon You against them because they have angered and harmed me; I only call upon You for Your sake, for the sake of Your religion, and because they have belied me regarding Your revelation and Your message. So judge {between me and them}."

• Al-Fattāḥah (The Opening/Judgment): It is the judgment (al-ḥukūmah).
• Al-Fattāḥ (The Opener/Judge): It is the judge (al-ḥākim), because he opens what is locked, just as he is named Fayṣal (the Decider) because he separates (yafṣilu) between disputes.
• Al-Fulk (The Ship): It is the vessel. Its plural is fulk. God Almighty said: "And you see the ships (al-fulk) plowing through it." The singular is on the measure of qufl, and the plural is on the measure of asad. They broke the form fa‘l into fu‘ul, just as they broke fa‘l into fu‘ul, because they are siblings, as in the words: al-‘arab and al-‘urub, and ar-rushd and ar-rushud. Thus, they said: asad and usud, and fulk and fuluk. Its equivalent is: ba‘īr hijān (a white camel) and ibil hijān (white camels), and dir‘ ḍalāṣ (a smooth coat of mail) and durū‘ ḍalāṣ (smooth coats of mail). The singular is on the measure of kināz, and the plural is on the measure of kirām.
• Al-Mashḥūn (The Laden): It is the filled. It is said: "He filled (shaḥanaha) it with horses and men."

{‘Ād denied the messengers. When their brother Hūd said to them, "Will you not fear God? Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. So fear God and obey me. And I do not ask you for it any payment; my payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. Do you build on every high place a sign, amusing yourselves? And do you take palaces, hoping that you might live forever? And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. So fear God and obey me."}
