Verse range: 26:132
"And fear Him who has provided you with that which you know."
He intensified their awakening to the blessings of Allah by summarizing them, then detailing them, while citing their own knowledge as evidence. He roused them from the slumber of their heedlessness when He said: "Provided you with that which you know." Then, He enumerated these blessings for them and made them recognize the Bestower by listing the favors they were already aware of. He showed that just as He was capable of bestowing these favors upon them, He is also capable of rewarding and punishing; therefore, fear Him. Similar to this is His saying: "And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to the servants" (Āl ʿImrān: 30).
If you ask: How did He pair "sons" with "livestock"? I reply: They are the ones who assist them in guarding the livestock and tending to them.
"They said: 'It is all the same to us whether you preach or are not of those who preach. This is but the custom of the ancients. And we are not to be punished.' So they denied him, and We destroyed them. Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."
