Tafsir
Verse range: 26:167
{لئن لم تنته} If you do not desist from forbidding us and condemning our affair,
{لتكونن} You shall certainly be among those whom we have expelled from our midst and driven out of our land.
It is likely that they used to expel those they cast out in the worst possible state: through harsh abuse and the confiscation of their property. This is how tyrants behave when they exile someone who has angered them, just as the people of Mecca used to do to those who wished to emigrate.
{قال إني لعملكم من القالين * رب نجني وأهلي مما يعملون * فنجيناه وأهله أجمعين * إلا عجوزاً في الغابرين * ثم دمرنا الآخرين * وأمطرنا عليهم مطراً فساء مطر المنذرين * إن في ذلك لآية وما كان أكثرهم مؤمنين * وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم}
{He said: "Indeed, I am of those who detest your deeds. My Lord, save me and my family from what they do." So We saved him and his family, all of them, except an old woman among those who remained behind. Then We destroyed the others. And We rained upon them a rain, and evil was the rain of those who were warned. Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.}
