Tafsir of Ash-Shu`ara' 26:5

"And there comes not to them from..." Meaning: And there is no admonition or reminder that Allah renews for them through His revelation, except that they renew their turning away from it and their disbelief in it.

If you ask: How is it that the expressions differ while the purpose—turning away, denial, and mockery—is one and the same?

I say: They were varied due to the variation in the intended meanings. It is as if it were said: When they turned away from the Reminder, they denied it; and when they denied it, its value diminished in their estimation, and it became a target for mockery and ridicule. This is because whoever is receptive to the truth and approaches it is inevitably a believer in it, and denial cannot be attributed to him. And whoever believes in it holds it in high esteem.

"But there will come to them..." This is a threat and a warning to them that they will know—when the punishment of Allah touches them on the Day of Badr or the Day of Resurrection—what it is that they used to mock, which is the Qur’an. Its news and the realities of it, which were hidden from them, will come to them.

"Have they not seen the earth—how much We have produced therein from every noble pair? Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."
