Tafsir of Ash-Shu`ara' 26:90

The Interpretation:

Paradise will be brought close to the station of the fortunate. They will gaze upon it and rejoice, knowing they are the ones being gathered toward it.

Conversely, the Fire will be made manifest and exposed to the wretched, within their sight, causing them to grieve as they realize they are the ones being driven toward it.

Allah the Exalted said: "And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far" (Qaf: 31). And He said: "But when they saw it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieved were distressed" (Al-Mulk: 27).

All sorrows and regrets will be gathered upon them. The Fire will be placed within their sight, causing them to perish from grief at every moment. They will be rebuked for their polytheism, and it will be said to them: "Where are your gods? Do they benefit you by helping you? Or do they benefit themselves by defending themselves?" This is because they and their gods are the fuel of the Fire.

This is the meaning of His saying: "So they will be overturned into it" (Al-Shu'ara: 94)—meaning the gods and the Ghawun (the misguided), who are their worshippers for whom Hell was made manifest.

Kawkaba (overturned) is the repetition of kabb (to throw/overturn). The repetition in the word serves as evidence for the repetition in meaning; it is as if, when one is cast into Hell, they are overturned again and again until they settle at its bottom. O Allah, protect us from it, for You are the best refuge.

{And the soldiers of Iblis}: His devils, or his followers among the disobedient jinn and mankind.

{They will say while they are therein disputing: "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error, when we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. And none misled us except the criminals. So we have no intercessors, nor a close friend. Then if we only had a return [to the world], we would be of the believers." Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.}
