Tafsir of An-Naml 27:83

{فهم يوزعون} They are held back—the first of them is restrained for the last of them—until they are all gathered together, then they are cast headlong into the Fire.

This expression denotes a vast multitude whose ranks are spread far apart, just as the soldiers of Solomon were described.

Likewise is His saying: {فوجا} (a group/throng), for a fawj is a large gathering. From this is His saying, the Exalted: {You see the people entering the religion of Allah in throngs} (An-Nasr: 2).

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Abu Jahl, Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah, and Shaybah ibn Rabi'ah are driven before the people of Mecca. Likewise, the leaders of all other nations are driven before them into the Fire.

If you ask: What is the difference between the first min (in "min kulli ummatin") and the second min (in "min kulli ummatin")?

I say: The first is for tab'id (partitive/specifying a portion), and the second is for tabyin (explicative/clarifying), like His saying: {...from the idols}.

{Until, when they arrive, He will say, "Did you deny My signs while you had not encompassed them in knowledge? Or what was it that you used to do?" And the decree will befall them because they did wrong, and they will not speak.}
