Tafsir
Verse range: 28:1
Meccan. Its verses are eighty-eight.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These are disjointed letters, similar to those at the beginning of Sūrat al-Baqarah.
Meaning: These are the verses of the Book that clarifies the truth from falsehood, and the guidance from misguidance.
Meaning: We relate to you, O Muhammad, a portion of the account of Moses and Pharaoh.
Meaning: We recite it with the truth, containing no falsehood.
Meaning: For a people who believe in Allah and His signs, for they are the ones who benefit from this recitation and take heed from it.
{Of the news of Moses and Pharaoh} This is the object of the verb natlū (We recite), meaning: We recite to you a portion of their news.
{In truth} Meaning: We are truthful in this recitation, similar to His saying: "growing with oil."
{For a people who believe} Meaning: For those whom We have already known in Our knowledge that they will believe, because the recitation only benefits these people, not others.
{Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and divided its people into factions, oppressing a group among them, slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.}
