Surah Al-Qasas 28:18



ﲐ ﲑ ﲒ ﲓ ﲔ ﲕ ﲖ ﲗ ﲘ ﲙ ﲚ ﲛ ﲜ ﲝ ﲞ ﲟ ﲠ

And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."

Al-Qasas: (18) "And he became in the city..."

{Yataraqqabu} (He was fearful/expectant): He was anticipating something detestable, namely retaliation against him, or the news of what was being said about him.

The Israelite was described as "misguided" (ghawi): Because he was the cause of a man’s death while he was fighting another. It is also recited as yabtishu (he strikes/assaults) with a damma.

"The enemy to both of them": This refers to the Copt, because he was not of their religion, and because the Copts were enemies of the Children of Israel.

"The Tyrant" (al-jabbar): He who does whatever he wishes—be it striking or killing—unjustly, without considering the consequences or repelling evil with what is better. It is also said: He is the arrogant one who does not humble himself before the command of God.

When the Israelite said this, he exposed Moses. The talk spread throughout the city, reached Pharaoh, and they plotted to kill him.

{And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the chiefs are conferring about you to kill you, so leave. Indeed, I am to you one of the sincere advisors."}
