Tafsir of Al-Qasas 28:20

"And a man came from the farthest part of the city running..."

It is said: The "man" is the believer from the family of Pharaoh, and he was Pharaoh’s cousin.

Regarding "running" (yasʿā):

• It is grammatically permissible for it to be an adjective (naʿt) describing "a man."
• It is also permissible for it to be a circumstantial qualifier (ḥāl) referring to him, because the noun "man" has become specific by being described as "from the farthest part of the city."
• If "from the farthest part of the city" is considered the relative clause (ṣilah) for "came" (jāʾa), then "running" (yasʿā) can only be an adjective.

"They are consulting (yatamāwarūn) about you..."

• Al-iʾtimār means consultation (tashāwur). It is said: "The two men are consulting (yatāmarān and yaʾtamirān)," because each of them commands the other to do something or suggests a matter to him.
• The meaning is: They are consulting regarding you.
• "For you" (laka) is an explanatory phrase; it is not connected to "the sincere advisors" (al-nāṣiḥīn).

"So he left it, fearful, anticipating. He said, 'My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people.'"
