Verse range: 28:55
{And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say: "To us our deeds, and to you your deeds. Peace be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."}
{Peace be upon you}: A farewell and a parting. Al-Ḥasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is a word of forbearance from the believers.
{We seek not the ignorant}: We do not desire to mix with them or keep their company.
If you ask: Whom are they addressing when they say {And to you your deeds}?
I reply: The ones who speak vainly, who are indicated by His saying: {And when they hear vain talk}.
{Indeed, you do not guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.}
