{That is the Home of the Hereafter...}

{That}: A glorification of it and an exaltation of its status. It means: That which you have heard mentioned and whose description has reached you.

The promise [of the Hereafter] is not contingent upon the actual commission of arrogance and corruption, but rather upon the desire for them and the inclination of the heart toward them. As He said: {And do not incline toward those who do wrong} (Hud: 113), making the threat contingent upon the inclination.

It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "A man might be pleased that the strap of his sandal is better than the strap of his companion’s sandal, and he falls under this [verse]."

It is narrated from al-Fudayl that he recited it and then said: "All worldly aspirations have vanished here."

It is narrated from Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz that he used to repeat it until he passed away.

Some greedy people attribute "arrogance" to Pharaoh and "corruption" to Korah, linking them to His words: {Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land} and {Do not seek corruption in the land}. They say: "Whoever is not like Pharaoh or Korah shall have that Home of the Hereafter." They do not contemplate His words: {And the [best] outcome is for the righteous}, as Ali, al-Fudayl, and Umar contemplated it.

{Whoever comes with a good deed will have better than it, and whoever comes with an evil deed—then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as] what they used to do.}
