And the answer of Abraham's people was not but that they said, "Kill him or burn him," but Allah saved him from the fire. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.

Tafsir
Verse range: 29:24
"So the answer of his people was nothing but..."
[Textual Variants] It is read: (jawāban qaddamuhu) in the accusative (naṣb) and the nominative (rafʿ).
[Exegesis] {They said}: Some of them said to others, or one of them said it while the rest were in agreement, thus they were all considered as speakers.
It is narrated that on that day—the day Abraham was cast into the fire—the fire was of no benefit, meaning its heat had vanished.
{And he said, "You have only taken, other than Allah, idols as a bond of affection among you in worldly life. Then on the Day of Resurrection you will deny one another and curse one another, and your refuge will be the Fire, and you will not have any helpers."}
