Verse range: 29:34
"The Rijz (torment) and the Rijs (abomination/torment):" It refers to the punishment. It is derived from the saying: "He became agitated (irtajaza) and disturbed (irtajasa)," due to the anxiety and agitation that befalls the one being punished.
"We are sending down (munzilun):" It is recited both with a light (takhfif) and a heavy (tashdid) emphasis.
"From it (minha):" Meaning, from the village.
"A clear sign (bayyina) for a people:" This refers to the ruins of their destroyed dwellings. Others say it refers to the remaining stones, or the black water upon the face of the earth, or the news of what was done to them.
"For a people (liqawm):" This is connected to either "We have left" (tarakna) or to "a clear sign" (bayyina).
