Al-Kashshaf: Al-Ankabut (38)

{And 'Ad and Thamud...}

The word {'Ad} is in the accusative case (mansub) due to an implied verb, (We destroyed). This is because the subsequent phrase, {so the earthquake seized them}, serves as evidence for it, as it carries the meaning of destruction.

{And it has become clear to you} of that: meaning what He described regarding their destruction.

{From} the perspective of {their dwellings}, when you look at them as you pass by them. The people of Mecca used to pass by these ruins during their travels and see them.

{And they were endowed with insight}: they were rational, capable of reflection and contemplation. Yet, they did not do so. Alternatively, it means they were clearly aware that the punishment was descending upon them because Allah the Exalted had made it clear to them through the tongues of the Messengers (peace be upon them), but they persisted until they were destroyed.

{And Korah, Pharaoh, and Haman. And Moses had already come to them with clear proofs, but they were arrogant in the land, and they were not outrunners [of Our punishment]. So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast, and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And it was not Allah who would wrong them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.}
