Tafsir of Al-`Ankabut 29:57

"Every soul shall taste death..."

When He commanded His servants to be diligent in worship and to be sincerely concerned with it—to the point of seeking the most suitable lands for it, even if they are far away—He followed it with His saying: {Every soul shall taste death}.

That is, it shall experience its bitterness and agony, just as one who tastes something experiences its flavor. The meaning is: You are all going to die and will reach the recompense. Whoever faces such an end has no choice but to provide provisions for it and prepare with all their effort.

{And those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will surely assign them lofty mansions in Paradise, beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers. Those who have been patient and upon their Lord they rely.}
