Al-Ankabut: (6) "And whoever strives, he only strives..."

{And whoever strives} against his own soul, restraining it from what it commands and compelling it toward what it resists, {he only strives for his own soul}, for the benefit of that striving returns to it. Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He) only commanded and forbade out of mercy for His servants, while He is entirely free of need for them and their obedience.

{And those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them [according to] the best of what they used to do.}
