Al-Ankabut: (7) "And those who believe and do..."

Interpretation:

It either refers to:

  1. Righteous Muslims who have committed some misdeeds, yet their evil deeds are overwhelmed by their good deeds. Thus, He expiates them—meaning He removes the punishment for them through the reward of their good deeds—and He rewards them for the best of what they used to do, meaning: the best reward for their deeds.
  1. Polytheists who believed and performed righteous deeds. Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, expiates their evil deeds by removing the punishment for the disbelief and sins they committed previously, and He rewards them with the best reward for their deeds in Islam.

{ And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do. }
