"A written decree" (كتابا)
An emphatic verbal noun (maṣdar), because the meaning is: "He has written death as a written decree."
"Deferred" (مؤجلا)
Appointed for it, having a known term that neither advances nor delays.
"And whoever desires the reward of this world" (ومن يرد ثواب الدنيا)
An allusion to those who were distracted by the spoils of war on the day of Uḥud.
"We shall give him thereof" (نؤته منها)
Meaning: from its reward.
"And We shall reward" (وسنجزي)
The reward is unspecified for those who were grateful for the blessing of God, such that nothing distracted them from jihād.
Note: It is also recited as "yūtihi" (He shall give him) and "sayajzī" (He shall reward), with the ya’ in both.
