Tafsir of Al Imran 3:198

"But those who feared [their Lord]..."

"Nuzulan" (a hospitality/lodging): Nuzul is that which is prepared for a guest (nazil). The poet Abu al-Shu‘ara’ al-Dabbi said:

And when the tyrant visited us with his army, We made spears and sharp blades his hospitality.

Grammatical Analysis: Its accusative case (nasb) is either:

1. A state (hal) derived from "Gardens" (jannat), due to its specification by the description, with the lam (in lil-muttaqin) acting as the operative agent.
2. It may be an infinitive (masdar) acting as an emphatic, as if it were said: "a provision or a gift."

"From Allah" "And what is with Allah" Meaning: That which is abundant and everlasting.

"Is better for the righteous" Than that which the wicked fluctuate within, which is little and fleeting.

Variant Readings:

• Muslimah ibn Muharib and al-A‘mash read "Nuzulan" with a sukun (on the za).
• Yazid ibn al-Qa‘qa‘ read "Lakinna" (But those who feared) with a tashdid (on the nun).
