Al-Imran: 52
"But when 'Isa felt..."
Meaning: When he perceived from them...
"...disbelief..."
A knowledge free of any doubt, like the knowledge attained through the senses.
"...and to Allah..."
This is connected to "my helpers" (ansari), implying the meaning of attribution. It is as if it were said: "Who are those who attribute themselves to Allah, helping me just as He helps me?" Or, it is connected to an omitted state (hal) related to the [first-person] pronoun: "Who are my helpers, turning toward Allah and seeking refuge in Him?"
"We are the helpers of Allah."
Meaning: The helpers of His religion and His Messenger. The Hawari (disciple) of a man is his elite and his purest companion. From this, the term Hawariyat is used for women of fair complexion, due to the purity and clarity of their skin. The poet said:
"Tell the fair-skinned women to weep for others, and let none weep for us but the barking dogs."
Similar in form is Hawali, meaning one who is full of stratagems. They requested his testimony to their submission to confirm their faith, for the Messengers will testify for and against their people on the Day of Resurrection.
"...with the witnesses."
Meaning: With the Prophets who testify for their nations, or with those who testify to the Oneness of God. It is also said: With the nation of Muhammad (peace be upon him), for they are witnesses over mankind.
"And they plotted..."
The "and" refers to the disbelievers among the Children of Israel from whom he perceived disbelief. Their plot was that they appointed someone to kill him by treachery. Allah’s plot was that He raised 'Isa to the heaven and cast his likeness upon the one who intended to assassinate him, until he was killed instead.
"And Allah is the best of plotters."
The most powerful in plotting, the most effective in stratagem, and the most capable of punishing from where the punished does not perceive.
"When Allah said: 'O 'Isa, indeed I will take you, and raise you to Myself, and purify you from those who disbelieve, and make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ. As for those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers. But as for those who believe and do righteous deeds, He will give them their rewards in full. And Allah does not like the wrongdoers.'" (55-57)
