Tafsir of Ar-Rum 30:14-16

"And on the Day the Hour is established..."

The pronoun in {On that Day they will be separated} refers to both the Muslims and the disbelievers, as indicated by what follows it.

Al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is the separation of the Muslims and the disbelievers; the former will be in ‘Illiyyun (the highest place), and the latter in the lowest of the low.

Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is a separation after which there is no reunion.

{In a garden} (rawdah): In a grove, which is Paradise. The use of the indefinite form is to convey the ambiguity and magnificence of its state. To the Arabs, a rawdah is any land containing vegetation and water. In their proverbs, they say: "More beautiful than an egg in a rawdah," referring to an ostrich egg.

{They will be made to rejoice} (yuhbarun): They will be made happy. It is said: "He gladdened him" (habarahu) if he made him happy with a joy that causes his face to beam and its effects to appear upon him. Opinions differ regarding its specific meaning due to its potential to encompass all forms of joy:

• Mujahid: They will be honored.
• Qatadah: They will be granted bliss.
• Ibn Kaysan: They will be adorned.
• Abu Bakr ibn ‘Ayyash: Crowns will be upon their heads.
• Waki‘: Listening to music in Paradise.

Regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him): He mentioned Paradise and the bliss within it. A Bedouin at the back of the group asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is there music in Paradise?" He replied: "Yes, O Bedouin. In Paradise, there is a river with banks of virgins, white and fair, singing with voices the likes of which creation has never heard. That is the best of the blessings of Paradise." The narrator asked Abu al-Darda’: "What will they sing?" He replied: "With the glorification of Allah (tasbih)."

It is also narrated: "In Paradise, there are trees with bells of silver. When the people of Paradise desire to listen, Allah sends a wind from beneath the Throne that strikes those trees, causing the bells to move with sounds that, if the people of the world heard them, they would die of ecstasy."

{They will be brought} (muhdarun): They will not be absent from it, nor will it be lightened for them, similar to His saying: {And they will not be able to exit from it} (Al-Ma'idah: 37), and {It will not be lightened for them} (Az-Zukhruf: 75).

{So exalt Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning. And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalt Him] at night and when you reach the noon. He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out.}
