"And of His signs is the creation..."

The Tongues: Meaning languages, or the various types and forms of speech. The Almighty and Exalted has differentiated between these things to the extent that you will hardly hear two speakers who are in complete agreement regarding a single whisper, loudness, sharpness, softness, eloquence, accent, structure, style, or any other attribute or condition of speech.

Likewise is the case with physical forms and their features, and colors and their variations. It is through this diversity that mutual recognition occurs. Were they to be identical and uniform—a single type—ignorance and confusion would ensue, and many interests would be obstructed.

Often, you may see twins who resemble one another in physical appearance, and you fall into error when trying to distinguish between them. In this, you recognize the wisdom of God in differentiating between appearances. This is a clear sign, for they are born of one father and branch out from a single origin, yet despite their vast numbers—which none but God knows—they remain different and distinct.

It has been recited as lil-‘ālamīn (for the worlds) with both a fatḥah and a kasrah on the lām. The kasrah is supported by the words of the Almighty: "But none will understand them except those of knowledge (al-‘ālimūn)" (Al-‘Ankabūt: 43).

"And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who hear."
