{He perfected everything He created}

He made it beautiful, for there is nothing He created except that it is ordered according to what wisdom requires and what benefit necessitates. Thus, all created things are beautiful, even if they vary in degrees of beauty, as He said: {We have certainly created man in the best of stature} (At-Tin: 4).

It is also said: He knew how to create it, derived from the saying: "A person's value is what he masters (yuhsin)." Its reality is: He knows it well, meaning He knows it with precision and mastery.

It was also recited as (khalqahu) as a substitution, meaning: He perfected, for He created everything. And (khalqahu) as a description, meaning: Everything He created, He perfected.

Offspring are called nasl (progeny) because they tansullu (detach/emerge) from him, meaning they separate from him and exit from his loins. Similar to this is their saying for a child: salil (offspring) and najl (descendant).

{And fashioned him} means He leveled him, as in His saying: {In the best of stature} (At-Tin: 4).

By attributing the soul to His own Essence, He indicated that it is a wondrous creation whose true nature is known only to Him, as in His saying: {And they ask you about the soul...} (Al-Isra: 85). It is as if He said: And He breathed into him from that thing which He alone is distinguished by and knows.

{And they say, "When we are lost within the earth, will we indeed be in a new creation?" Rather, they are, in the meeting with their Lord, disbelievers. Say, "The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned."}
