Surah Saba' 34:47
ﳍ ﳎ ﳏ ﳐ ﳑ ﳒ ﳓ ﳔ ﳕ ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ ﳙ ﳚ ﳛ ﳜ ﳝ ﳞ ﳟ
Say, "Whatever payment I might have asked of you - it is yours. My payment is only from Allah, and He is, over all things, Witness."

{فَهُوَ لَكُم} It is the *jazāʾ* (consequent) of the conditional clause, which is His saying: {مَا سَأَلْتُكُم مِّنْ أَجْرٍ} (Whatever reward I have asked of you). Its estimation is: "Whatever reward I have asked of you, it is for you." This is like the Almighty’s saying: {مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ} (Whatever mercy Allah opens for mankind...).
There are two meanings here:
First: A total negation of having asked for a reward at all. It is like a man saying to his companion, "If I have given you anything, take it," while he knows he has given him nothing. He intends by this to emphasize the negation by conditioning the "taking" upon something that did not occur.
Second: That he intends by "reward" what he intended in the Almighty’s saying: {قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِلَّا مَن شَاءَ أَن يَتَّخِذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا} (Say: I ask of you no reward for it, except for him who wishes to take a path to his Lord), and in His saying: {قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَىٰ} (Say: I ask of you no reward for it, except love for the kinsfolk). This is because taking a path to Allah is their own portion and where their benefit lies. Likewise, the love for the kinsfolk, because kinship encompasses both them and me.
