Tafsir of Fatir 35:29-30

{Those who recite the Book of Allah} They persist in its recitation; it is their affair and their habit.

• Mutarrif (may Allah have mercy on him): It is the verse of the reciters.
• Al-Kalbi (may Allah have mercy on him): They act upon what is in it.
• It is said: They learn what is in it and act accordingly.
• Al-Suddi (may Allah have mercy on him): They are the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace and be pleased with them).
• ‘Ata’: They are the believers.

{They hope for} This is the predicate of Inna (Indeed).

{A trade} Seeking reward through obedience.

{That He may pay them in full} This is connected to {that will never perish}; meaning: a trade that is free from stagnation and is accepted by Allah, so that He may pay them in full {their rewards}, which is what they have earned of recompense, {and increase them} out of His grace beyond what they have earned.

If you wish, you may place {they hope for} in the position of a state (hal), meaning: "And they spent, hoping that He would pay them in full." That is, they performed all of that—recitation, establishing prayer, and spending in the way of Allah—for this purpose.

The predicate of Inna is His saying: {Indeed, He is Forgiving, Appreciative}, meaning: Forgiving of their sins, Appreciative of their deeds. "Appreciation" (shukr) is a metaphor for rewarding.

{And that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], of the Book is the truth, confirming what was before it. Indeed, Allah, of His servants, is Acquainted and Seeing.}
